20. Is sunless tanning safe
for pregnant women?
1.
Is sunless tanning safe?
Yes, it is. The FDA approved Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a sugar
cane derivative that results in the tan, for safety in 1973.
When applied to the skin, DHA penetrates only the top layer
of skin it does not absorb into the body or bloodstream.
2.
Do Aviva Labs' sunless tanning products contain erythrulose?
No. Aviva Labs uses the only FDA-approved ingredient for sunless tanning -
DHA (dihydroxyacetone.) No other skin colorants, including erythrulose, have been approved by the
FDA for sunless tanning, therefore we do not and will not use erythrulose in our products.
3.
Do Aviva Labs' sunless tanning products contain alcohol?
No. Alcohol is very drying to the skin and can cause irritation.
Furthermore, alcohol intensifies degradation of DHA and thus
shortens the shelf life of the product.
4.
Do Aviva Labs' sunless tanning products contain Aloe Vera?
No. Aloe Vera is an oil-based moisturizer. Though beneficial in other
cosmetics and skincare products, Aloe Vera has many negative side effects when used in sunless tanners.
It can dramatically slow drying times, clog pores and HVLP spray guns, plus stain clothes and bed sheets.
Aloe-based or oil-based products also require more air compressor pressure to spray, are more difficult to
clean up, and often require the addition of alcohol (which introduces a whole new set of problems) to speed
up the drying time. Aviva Labs does NOT use Aloe Vera or alcohol in our sunless tanners. Instead, we developed
a unique, new product that is water-based (oil-free) rather than Aloe Vera-based (oil-based.) Aviva Labs'
solution is highly moisturizing, yet it dries in seconds, rather than minutes like Aloe Vera-based solutions.
You can truly feel the difference with Aviva Labs' solution.
5.
Do Aviva Labs' sunless tanning solutions contain fragrances?
No. First, our sunless tanning solution is designed specifically for people with hypersensitive
skin. Second, no one wants sunless tanning solution that smells too flowery, fruity or sweet. Not only can
these fragrances be very unpleasant, but also, many salons that have male clients appreciate our fragrance-free solutions.
6.
Will I experience allergic reactions or acne with your products?
Aviva Labs sunless solutions are hypoallergenic oil-free,
alcohol-free, and fragrance-free, designed specifically for
hypersensitive skin. As
part of our philosophy Beauty
Today. Health for Life., we use only the purest,
essential ingredients necessary for optimal results.
Dermatologists agree that the greater the number of ingredients,
the greater the chances for allergic reactions. Our sunless
tanning solution contains only 13 ingredients (including the
3 colors that make up the bronzer.) We have counted up to 33
ingredients in some well-known competitors' solutions. Please
note: if your clients have a hypersensitive skin condition or
known allergies to sunless tanning products, have them consult
their physician prior to spraying them.
7.
Will Aviva Labs' sunless tanning products stain my clients'
clothes or bed sheets?
Generally, salons will recommend their clients wear garments that are loose
and dark in color after an application. However, Aviva Labs' solutions dry
quickly and are water-based so they rarely transfer to clothing or bed sheets.
If any color does get transferred to clothing, it can be easily washed in a
normal cycle and will not stain.
8.
I'm about to sample your sunless tanning solutions. What differences
should I look for as I spray on the solutions?
Aviva Labs' sunless tanning solutions are very different from
any others on the market. You can see and feel the difference
on the skin. View our formulas
page to learn why salon and spa owners who know choose Aviva
Labs.
9.
How long does a sunless tan last?
An Aviva Labs sunless tan will usually last 5-8 days. To maximize
the life of the tan, thoroughly exfoliate thoroughly using
Aviva Labs Exfoliant prior to application and moisturize generously
with the Aviva Labs Moisturizing Crème each day after the
application.
10.
What about my clients who always burn (never tan) in the sun.
Will they be able to get a sunless tan?
Absolutely. If your client has very fair skin (Skin type 1),
and always burns in the sun and therefore has never been able
to tan, they can achieve a sunless tan. With Aviva Labs 8% DHA
solution, it will look terrific.
11.
When should I use DHA booster drops?
There are a very small percentage of people who are so DHA-resistant
that they cannot get a tan even from 12%DHA solution, as well
as people who just want an exceptionally dark tan. For them,
we manufacture concentrated DHA booster drops. By adding 11
drops (less than 0.5ml) of Aviva Labs' DHA Booster Drops, you
will increase the DHA concentration of your solution by 1% per
oz., enabling you to customize the darkness level. The Booster
Drops are colorless and can be used in both the "Clear" and
"With Bronzer" Aviva Labs solutions.
12.
What is the difference between "Clear" and "With Bronzer" solution?
Both solutions contain DHA, but the "Clear" solution is completely
colorless, while the "With Bronzer" simply means there is 'color
guide' in the solution. This is a bronzer made from very high
quality, food-grade food colorants. It serves two purposes.
First, since DHA takes 4-8 hours to fully react with the skin
and develop the beautiful tan, the bronzer gives clients the
"instant gratification" tan so they can leave your salon with
a beautiful, instant tan. Once your client showers (a least
8 hours after being sprayed), the color guide (bronzer) washes
off to reveal the beautiful DHA tan. Second, this color guide
helps the spray technician track where and how much they have
sprayed on the client.
13.
When should I choose "Clear" solution?
Some people prefer to use the "Clear" versions, especially for
facial applications, since the skin is very sensitive. Please
note that spraying the "Clear" solution is more challenging
because there is no 'color guide' to indicate where the spray
technician has already sprayed.

15.
What air compressor pressure should I use for airbrush application?
Our sunless tanning products are water-based, allowing for lower
air compressor pressure than most of the thicker, sticky aloe
vera-based sunless tanning solutions on the market. We recommend
pressures of 10-15 PSI, and this should virtually eliminate
all overspray.
16.
Can I interchange your products for airbrush, HVLP/Turbo and
spray booths?
While the same solution for one specific application type can
be applied by different methods, each version is specifically
formulated for optimal results. Therefore, for best results,
we recommend that you use the correct formula for your specific
application.
For example, the airflow characteristics
of HVLP/Turbo equipment differ greatly from those of Airbrush
equipment. Therefore, our Aviva Labs' HVLP/Turbo solution
has been performance-tuned to this equipment, with optimized
1) viscosity (thickness), 2) adherence to skin, and 3) spray
characteristic while exiting the gun nozzle, resulting in
minimized overspray and the most even coverage possible.
In the case of spray booths, salon
owners are trying to reduce cleaning and maintenance to maximize
return-on-investment, so our Aviva Labs' spray booth solution
is specifically optimized for reduced foaming and filming
action, resulting in less residue on the spray booth surfaces.
17.
I see alcohol in your skincare ingredient list. Will this dry
out or irritate my skin?
The ingredients you are referring to, stearyl alcohol
and cetyl alcohol, are emollients we use in our Exfoliant,
Moisturizing Crème and Skin Glow to soften and soothe the
skin. Though they have the word "alcohol" in their names,
they are NOT irritants. They are completely unrelated to SD
alcohol or ethyl alcohol, the "alcohols" that commonly
dry out the skin and cause irritation. You can learn more
about our ingredients in our Ingredient
Glossary.
18.
How can I maximize the shelf life of my sunless tanning product?
Aviva Labs solution should be used within 12 months. To maximize
shelf life, keep container tightly closed and away from sunlight,
keep product below 80°F (27°C), and do not freeze.
19.
Where can I learn more about the ingredients in your products?
We feature a complete explanation of our ingredients in our Ingredient
Glossary
20.
Is sunless tanning safe for pregnant women?
Aviva Labs' products, as well
as other sunless tanning solutions, have not been tested on
pregnant women. Ask your customer who thinks that she might
be pregnant to consult with her doctor and provide you with
a written permission form prior to application.
