An Aviva spray tan typically lasts 7–10 days with proper preparation and aftercare. Keeping the skin moisturized and using spray tan-safe products can help maintain an even, natural-looking fade and extend the life of the tan.
Aviva Rapid solutions contain 17.2% DHA. Instead of choosing a different DHA percentage, you control the depth of the tan through the rinse time. The longer the solution remains on the skin before the initial rinse, the deeper the final result will develop.

Store Aviva solutions in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Keep bottles tightly sealed when not in use to help maintain the quality and performance of the solution.
The cosmetic bronzer may transfer onto clothing or bedding while the tan is developing. We recommend wearing loose, dark clothing and avoiding light-colored fabrics until after your initial rinse. If any transfer does occur, simply wash the item as usual.

Aviva Sunless 101 is our comprehensive professional spray tan certification course designed to give you the knowledge and skills needed to confidently provide professional spray tan services. Training covers spray tan application techniques, color theory, skin tones and undertones, solution selection, equipment use, client consultation, troubleshooting, aftercare, and more.
Sunless 101 is designed for beginners, salon owners, estheticians, experienced spray tan artists, and entrepreneurs looking to start or grow a spray tanning business. No previous spray tanning or beauty industry experience is required.
Students must be 16 or older, and participants under 18 require parent or guardian consent. All genders are welcome. Male students attending in person are required to bring a model for the hands-on portion of the class.
Aviva offers in-person Sunless 101 certification classes in a wide selection of cities across the country, giving students the opportunity to learn directly from an instructor and gain hands-on experience with professional spray tan equipment.
We also offer a fully online certification course for those who prefer to learn from home or don’t have an upcoming class nearby. The online course is completely self-paced, so you can work through the training on your own schedule. It is not a live stream or Zoom class, allowing you to pause, review, and revisit the training whenever you need.
Yes! Upon successful completion of the Sunless 101 course, you’ll receive your Aviva Sunless professional spray tan certification, recognizing your completion of professional spray tan training.
Sunless 101 is designed to give you everything you need to confidently start and grow your own spray tan business. You’ll learn skin types and undertones, color theory, solution selection and customization, professional spray tan technique, equipment setup and use, client consultation and preparation, troubleshooting, and aftercare.
The course also goes beyond the spray itself with business-building and marketing education, helping you understand how to set up your services, attract clients, market your business, and turn your certification into a successful spray tanning business.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes since you’ll be practicing throughout the day. If you’ll be sprayed during the hands-on portion, bring or wear an outfit you’re comfortable being sprayed in.
During class, we use Tango Tan, our DHA-free, bronzer-only practice solution. It allows students to see and practice proper application without developing a lasting tan. The bronzer simply washes away in the shower.
For in-person Sunless 101 classes, you do not need to bring your own spray tan equipment or products. All equipment and supplies needed for training and hands-on practice are provided during class.
You may bring a model for the hands-on portion of the training or plan to be sprayed yourself.
Our in-person Sunless 101 Certification Class is a full-day training experience, typically held from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, including education, business and marketing training, demonstrations, and hands-on spray tan practice.
The online certification course includes approximately 4 hours of educational content and is completely self-paced. You can work through the course on your own schedule and pause, review, or revisit the material whenever you need.
In most U.S. states, no special cosmetology or esthetics license is required specifically for spray tanning. However, requirements can vary by state and local jurisdiction.
Oregon: Individuals who apply spray tans must hold a valid Oregon esthetician license.
Ohio: Tanning businesses must obtain a Tanning Facility Permit from the state.
Even if your state does not require a specific spray tanning license, be sure to check your city and county requirements. You’ll also want to have the appropriate business registration and liability insurance and follow professional hygiene and safety practices.

For best results, advise clients to exfoliate approximately 24 hours before their appointment and complete any shaving or waxing beforehand. At the appointment, the skin should be clean and free of lotions, oils, deodorant, makeup, and other products that may create a barrier between the skin and the solution.
Before spraying, complete a client consultation to determine their skin type, undertone, desired result, and appropriate solution and rinse time. Pay attention to excessively dry areas and use barrier cream where needed to help prevent excess DHA absorption.
Yes, but it should be done before the appointment. We recommend shaving at least 12 hours before and waxing at least 24 hours before the spray tan. This gives the skin time to settle and helps prevent solution from collecting in freshly opened pores.
We recommend approximately 2 oz (60 mL) of solution per full-body spray tan. Pour more solution into your spray gun cup than you expect to use, since the dip tube does not reach all the way to the bottom of the cup. Any unused solution can be poured back into the liter bottle after the service to avoid waste.
Aviva Rapid solutions are designed to be rinsed in 1–6 hours, depending on your client’s skin type and desired depth of color. The longer the solution remains on the skin before the initial rinse, the deeper the final result will develop.

Aviva Rapid solutions all contain the same high 17.2% DHA, allowing them to work faster than traditional solutions. Instead of waiting the typical 8 hours before rinsing, clients can rinse in as little as 1–6 hours.
The artist uses the client’s skin type and desired result to determine how long the solution should remain on the skin before the initial rinse.
The tan can develop darker than intended and run the risk of overdevelopment, resulting in an orange tone. The first water rinse stops the development level of the tan, so it’s important that clients rinse at their recommended time.
Yes. Aviva solutions can be mixed to further customize color for your clients. When mixing, be sure to combine solutions with compatible set times, such as Rapid with Rapid or Traditional with Traditional.
Clients should avoid swimming, sweating, and working out until after their initial rinse. After rinsing, these activities are fine, but frequent exposure to chlorine, salt water, and heavy sweating can cause the tan to fade more quickly.
We recommend that clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding consult with their healthcare provider before receiving a spray tan. If their provider approves the service, take appropriate precautions to minimize inhalation and protect sensitive areas during application.
