We recently had the pleasure of sharing the wonderful story of Jennifer Driscoll as she turned her new-found passion from just a mobile business operating as a business owner at her own studio offering amazing spray tans! Jennifer knows how important it is to take great care of your skin and it absolutely shows in her client’s results. It’s no wonder her customers continue to come back to her over and over again!
Aviva: How long have you been in business?
Jennifer: I have been in business since 2013.
Aviva: What type of business do you have? (mobile, salon/spa, what other services you offer, etc.)
Jennifer: I am a licensed cosmetologist and I offer waxing and spray tanning. I started out offering mobile spray tans but now I have grown and have a studio where I also offer spray tans.
Aviva: Why did you choose spray tanning?
Jennifer: At 19 years old I was diagnosed with melanoma. I had spent my high school years in a tanning booth and even worked for a tanning salon. I am naturally quite fair, and my skin is actually translucent so, I did what any naive teen would do, and went tanning 5-7 days a week. 
Well, with that tanning regime I followed rigorously, I developed melanoma at 19. It was treated fairly easy, and I’m fortunate I caught it as early as I did. It was a simple procedure to remove the cancer. I go every three months for check ups and I’ve had several moles removed that have all been cancer free!
I’ve tried my best to avoid any sun exposure. That’s difficult living in the desert!! I apply sunblock several times a day and I still get some sun. I can get a sun spot just walking to my car and back!! I felt like a vampire, hiding from sunshine, avoiding any sun-infused activities.
Not only do I have fair, see-through like skin, I also have been blessed with jet black hair. That look may be good on Snow White or on Wednesday Adams but, for me it was a lifetime of ankle length summer dresses and Capri pants. How could I ever expose my legs or stomach in a bikini again?? I would never be tan again I thought.
I soon learned about spray tanning and DHA infused lotions and creams! From that moment on, I was hooked! I used the booths (hate to admit that) for years and I hated the results. After cosmetology school, I decided to dedicate my life to learning the art of spray tanning and have been passionate about it ever since!! I absolutely love spray tanning and can’t imagine ever doing anything else!
Aviva: What is your favorite part of being a spray tan business owner?
Jennifer: That I’m able to control my schedule and be as busy as I want to be. I love working in this field of work and it keeps me busy, which I love. I get to meet so many people and help them to feel confident and hopefully, keep them out of the sun!

If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting their business, what would it be?
Be patient and invest in your education. Become master certified and train with Aviva and really immerse yourself in the material. Learn and master your technique and be proud of your work. It doesn’t happen overnight and it takes time to establish your business and clientele. The hard work pays off. I love what I do and using Aviva’s solutions.
